CRCT

The week we have all been waiting for is now here.  We will be testing from Tuesday, April 21st through Monday, April 27th.  I have reminded students that they should get a good night sleep and eat a good nutritious breakfast each morning.  I have emphasized that they should do their best, and we are all going to remain calm.  There is no homework this week, but still please sign the assignment sheet for behavior or any other information that needs to be passed along.  I am looking forward to a great week!!!!

Math

Our class just finished the math unit on fractions, decimals, and measurement.  The next or rather last nine weeks of this year will be on multiplication and division...part 2.  As you know the students have already studied their multiplication facts, and several students have made the 100 and 100+ Club.  I would really like to see more students achieve this goal by reviewing and practicing their facts each night. They also need to know their facts because we will be multiplying two digit numbers and introducing some long division.

Winners!

Our class was the top pledging class at Nicholson for the Boosterthon! I want to thank all of you for your generous pledges...the class was so excited and involved the entire week.  As a result, we have won the Principal's Pizza Party which will take place on Friday, March 13th.  We have won a Wii for our classroom, and because of your generosity our class will earn 10% of the money produced by our class.  It was a great fund raiser for Nicholson and the Schmeelk Smileys!!!!

One If By Land, Two If By Sea

Paul revere Our class has been studying about Paul Revere and his influence on American History.  We were fortunate to go to the Cobb Civic Center to enjoy a performance about his life as part of the Performing Arts Program.  The students have really learned a lot about Paul Revere, and they are looking forward to the other biographies that we will be covering for the remainder of the year.

It's A Fact

Math_problemIt's a fact that we have started multiplication.  Your child has be instructed to study his or her multiplication facts each night for 15 minutes, in addition to any other homework he or she may have.  It is very important that your child memorize the multiplication facts, and we have made flashcards for this in class.  Your child needs to make sure he or she brings these home each night, and back to school the next day. The following is the schedule that we will be following as to when each fact should be learned:

2's - Oct. 17th

3's - Oct. 24th

4's - Oct. 31st

5's - Nov. 7th

6's - Nov. 14th

7's - Nov. 21st

8's -  Dec. 5th

9's - Dec. 12th

Book of the Month

BooksEdward and the Pirate is our book of the month.  The students have read the book and have made a response to literature with their writing as they made a text to text connection to Edward in the Jungle. Math is our school goal this year so they also solved an exemplar related to the book.  Be sure you check out the bulletin board and/or our hall wall for the published results.
