WEEKLY CURRICULUM UPDATE 11/16-11/20
MATH: This week we will compare and contrast 2D and 3D shapes using a Venn Diagram. We will also arrange shapes according to positional words (see standard below). Parents, please work with your child at home to distinguish LEFT from RIGHT.
Math Standards Addressed:
M1G2 Students will compare, contrast, and/or classify geometric shapes by the common attributes of position, shape, size, number of sides, number of corners.
M1G3 Students will arrange and describe objects in space by proximity, position, and direction (near, far, below, above, up, down, behind, in front of, next to, left or right of).
WRITING: We will continue to use the 6 Writing Traits to improve our narrative writing. We will review how important Organization is in our narratives so that our writing will make sense to the reader. We will practice a bold beginning, mighty middle, and an awesome ending when writing our narratives.
PHONICS(Words Their Way): This week we will identify, differentiate, and sort pictures for the consonant blends of sp, sk, and sm.
READING: We continue with Guided Reading Groups. Make sure your child reads the book to you to practice fluency.
SCIENCE: We continue our study of sounds by investigating important sounds (alarm clocks,loud speakers) and emergency sounds. We will learn how these sounds can help to keep us safe!
