MATH
This week we will review how to find the circumference and the area of circles. We will have a quiz on Friday.
SOCIAL STUDIES
World War II tests will come home Monday for your signature. This week we will work on an Atlas lesson focusing on equal rights and the changing population of the United States.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reports, reports, and more reports. We will finsih our outlines this week and hopefully finish our rough drafts. We will not do a Sitton lesson this week.

We will also do a mini-unit on nutrition this week. We will focus on how to read a food label. Be sure to ask your child how much sugar is in a can of coke.

I can't believe we only have 20 school days left this year. This year has just flown by. But we still have lots to accomplish this year, so please remember to check your child's agenda nightly and to encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes each night.
This week we will discover why the formula for the area of a circle is what it is. On Friday, we will have a quiz on circumference, diameter, radius, and area of a circle
Social Studies
We have finished our unit on WWII and The Cold War. A study guide should come home with your child this Monday. It is due on Wednesday when we will go over it. On Thursday we will review with a Jeopardy Game, and then on Friday we will take the test. Interactive Notebooks are also due on Friday, May 1.
LANGUAGE ARTS
In Reading and Writing Workshop we are working on our animal research. This week we will finish taking notes and learn how to turn our notes into an outline.
We will finish up our unit on Constructive and Destructive Forces this week. Look for a study guide next Monday, due on Wednesday, May 6th. The test will be on Friday, May 8th - the same day the Interactive Notebook will be due.

Can you believe we only have 4 full weeks left in this school year? I can't. This year has just flown by. The last progress report will be coming home on Thursday, April 23. Please sign and return it on Friday.

Yes, the Volunteer Appreciation Brunch is this Friday in the Media Center from 8:00 - 10:00. I will send home the invitations this Monday. I'm sorry for the lateness of the invitation. I just overlooked this deadline. Please know how grateful I am to all of you that help in and out of the classroom by volunteering to be Room Mothers, Art Masters, tutors, Copy Mom, helping with the 5th Grade Dance, and chaperones for the Callaway Field Trip. I'm sure I've forgotten some of the many things you have helped with this year. But please be on the lookout for your invitation this Monday and come by this Thursday for the recognition you so richly deserve. You have really made this year so special for the class and for me. We will be reviewing circumference, diameter, pi and the relationship between all three this week, as well as reviewing for CRCT. Download Math homework.
LANGUAGE ARTS
In Sitton this week we will talk about the following suffixes - s or es, ed, ing, ment, less, ness, able, and en - and how to correctly add them to root words.
In Reading Workshop we will be reviewing for the CRCT. Don't forget to have your child practice online for this very important test. We will also begin to take notes for our research project on an animal. Be sure to ask your child what animal they picked.
The eight different parts of speech - noun, verb, pronoun, adjective, adverb, pronoun, conjunction, and interjection - will be our focus for Writing Workshop this week.
This week we will discuss plate tectonics and what some scientists believe the earth use to look like.

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS
I have just finished grading Social Studies as well as Science Interactives. Both of these notebooks will come home Monday for your signatures. Many students take great pride in their notebooks and they are a pleasure to grade. Unfortunately, a few notebooks are half finished, with papers falling out or missing. To make it easier for you to know what is expected, I am going to update each week what should be finished in the notebook. Please let me know if this is helpful, or how I can impr

MATH
Last week we reviewed addition and subraction of fractions. Some had trouble with this, so we will have a retest this Thursday. We will review multiplication and division of decimals on Monday and Tuesday and then begin to explore the world of PI and the area of circles.
This week we will fight World War II, focusing on the unsung heroes of World War II. We will also talk about the Navajo Code Talkers and the atomic bomb.
LANGUAGE ARTS
In Sitton this week, we will focus on the most misspelled words in the English language - their, there, and they're.
World War II novels are being read and discussed in Reading Workshop. Ask your child which book they are reading - Number The Stars, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Behind the Bedroom Wall, When Hitler Stole the Pink Rabbit, or Snow Treasure. All of these novels provide great background knowledge which will supplement our Social Studies unit on World War II.
We will begin our unit on informational writing this week. Our final product will be a report on an animal.
What are constructive and destructive forces and how do they impact landforms? This is our focus this week. A landform booklet will be assigned on tuesday and due on Thursday. More information is included under Science Interactive.
