Science
What a great time of year to be studying life cycles. Our caterpillar larva just formed their chrysalises and should be morphing in 7 to 10 days. It's always hard to say good-bye to our Painted Ladies.
This is a link to a web page that tracks Monarch Butterfly migration. The students have been excited to spot some of the monarchs in the butterfly gardern.

Summer Bridges Workbooks can help!
Did you know research shows that over the summer vacation students may lose 80% of what they have been taught during the school year? Teachers are very aware of this fact. The Summer Bridges Workbook offers daily activities in phonics, reading, math, writing, and language arts. Not only is it a review, but a preview for next year's curriculum. The workbook will be offered through Nicholson for $12.00. Look for an order form to come home sometime this week.
Upcoming events:

Thank you parents for having your child here at school on time each day!We have finished the Reading and Language Arts sections of the CRCT!
Thursday, we finish up with the Math portion of the test. I remember from last year that this was our longest day. Please try to have everyone well rested!
I really need to compliment ALL of the students. They have been on their best "testing behavior"; listening, following directions, and working hard to do their best.
Have a relaxing evening Thursday night and this weekend............they all deserve it!
Don't forget those socks and buttons!
Sorry.................I had some computer issues Sunday evening!
Here is the Homework sheet for this week.
Our students will begin the CRCT tests next Tuesday. It will be very important that the students arrive to school on time, well rested, and fed with a good breakfast. We will test each morning from 8:00 or so until around 10:00. The students can still bring a snack. If your child misses a test because of illness or being late they will do it during make up times later in the week or in the afternoon. Students that arrive after the bell will not be allowed into the classroom until the testing period is over. If your child is truly sick then by all means keep them home. My experience has shown that most all students do better on these type of tests when they take them in their own class with their regular teacher.
Please take time to have your child practice some of the tests online. This will help them be more confident during the testing and also let them become familiar with the format of the questions. I will be sending their numbers and passwords home again so that you may help with this. Thanks to those of you who have already done this with your child!

Please have your child bring in an old sock. You can send one of those that is missing its "mate". Each student will also need to bring in 5-10 buttons (they don't have to match). We have a project that I would like to get started in the next week or so.
Thanks for all that you do for your child!
Welcome back! We have a busy week this week getting back into our routine and then next week we start CRCT testing. Please check back later this week for the testing schedule and tips to help your child do their best.
We are excited about having our Art Enrichment Day this Friday. Please send your child with a towel that day. We will go outside and have a picnic if it is nice. Sack lunches will be served that day.
Please remind your child of behavior expectations on the bus. Students have been forgetting to remain seated, to keep their hands to themselves, and to talk quietly. Our bus drivers work very hard to transport our students to and from school safely.
Behavior in the lunchroom has been less than perfect. We have very simple standards of behavior that the students are expected to follow:
Remain seated
Keep hands to yourself
Visit quietly with the students closest to you
Eat, don't play with food
If a student cannot use good manners at the class lunch table they will sit alone at another table. You will be notified if they have had trouble in the lunchroom.
We have been doing some CRCT Prep in the classroom. Please have your child use the online site for some more practice. It is usually just the format of the questions that proves difficult for some of the students. If you have misplaced your child's number for access, please send me an email and I will get it to you.
Continue to practice spelling. The Spelling City is a great website because it lets student put their own words in for practice
Have a great week and Spring Break!
How cute was the Second Grade Musical! Ms. Kneuer did a wonderful job!!!
Good news! You can now order DVD's of your child's performances online. You can preorder the upcoming show "An American Revue/Lemonade or order a copy of previous shows from this past year. Just go to:DVD's on sale online...
The students have begun their final unit of study in math class. This unit will focus on multiplication, addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers, data, and making change from $5.00. The students are not expected to memorize the subtraction facts at this time. If your child has mastered the addition and subtraction timed tests then feel free to have them begin to practice the multiplication facts. You can find practice on the same math websites that the students have been using.
I have attached the skills that will be covered and ways that you can help at home.

Please remember that your child should be bringing their AR books home and then back to school each day. Students are expected to take and pass at least 1 AR book a week. If your child is reading longer chapter books then we work around that.
Please let me know if you have had any trouble with the online CRCT practice tests.
We had a reporter visit our class to watch the students work on the Smartboard. This is the link if you would like to read the article.
