The Final Countdown

Daisy_2 Whew!  I know the students join me in saying how happy we are the testing is over!  We can get back to a somewhat regular schedule for just a few weeks.  Thank you for your assistance by getting your children here, on time, everyday, so they could test with the regular group.

Pizza Party

A big "Thank You" goes to those parents who participated in the Ident-A-Kid program.  Because of you, we won a pizza party.  We decided to celebrate the end of the CRCT with our pizza party.

Foundation News

THANK YOU ALL for supporting our Nicholson Foundation.  Because of funds raised, they are going to purchase technology equipment to turn 4 classrooms into 21st Century classrooms.  After an application process, I was selected to have this equipment installed in my classroom. The Foundation leaders are working to have it installed as soon as possible. Hopefully, we can get it before the end of the year.  This will include a Smart Interactive Board.  I am looking forward to this with great excitement about how it will impact the students and their learning.

Math

We will be working on data collection and representation in graphs and tables.  We are still trying to get 100% in the 100's+ Club, so keep practicing the multiplication facts.  Reminder: a student must complete 90 or more correct problems in 5 minutes for the 100's+ Club.

Language Arts

We will be starting our end of year evaluations in reading. This involves each student reading a story and retelling the story to me without being able to look back.  We are continuing to develop our 6 +1 Writing Traits.  Come by for a visit and see what we have been working on.

Happy March!

Clover Spring Break is almost here!  The year is really flying by.  We are working hard on many new things.  We finished our Government unit, with our own legislative session.  Ask your student what their role was.  In Science, we are studying about the 5 GA habitats and the plants and animals that live in each. In math, we are about to begin our unit on multiplying and dividing two and three digit numbers by a one digit number. We are completing our ant stories for the GA Writing Assessment and will soon start on a personal narrative.

No Bullying Allowed

Girl_artist               We are starting a new program at Nicholson to identify and stop all bullying.  All students are being asked to draw a poster that in some way illustrates that bullying needs to stop.  A schoolwide winner will be chosen to represent our school and be made into real posters.  The guidelines of the poster were sent home last week, along with a computer sheet of paper for the entry. Ask your child about this project.  The posters are due on Friday, March 14th.

Thank you!

Thank you for the extra nice Teacher's Appreciation Day!  Thank you all for the heavenly white hyacinths, the beautiful bracelet, and the chocolates.  The hyacinths have our room smelling like an outdoor garden.  A special thanks goes to Mrs. Lawson for helping to serve the buffet in the media center, and also to Mrs. Layton for keeping the kids an extra half-hour so that I could have a whole hour lunch break! A super special thanks goes to Mrs. Pennington for arranging it all and shopping for you.  You made me feel appreciated today! Bouquet_of_flowers

Penny Wars

Today, not a long time ago…In a Nicholson Star Galaxy, not far away…

PENNY WARS

It is a new age for Nicholson Stars…

Nicholson Stars have joined forces with the RallyKids Foundation to raise money and awareness for CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH.

THE RULES

Your class wins a PENNY WARS battle scoring the most penny points in a day.

Each penny in your class jug counts as one point. Any other type of money – coin or bill counts subtracts points – by each value.

Examples – a nickel subtracts 5 points

                 a dime subtracts 10 points

                 a dollar subtracts 100 points

                a 50 dollar bill subtracts 5,000 points!

All class jugs will be in the cafeteria. You may drop your coins and bills before school.

Results will be announced the following day and the winning class will be rewarded.

PENNY WARS lasts 5 days –

February 25 – 29

Every student will receive an offical Penny Wars Bag with the rules and their first penny to play on Friday, Feb. 22nd. Look for it coming home.

Good luck,

Nicholson Student Council
