Our Program

Early Intervention Program (EIP)

Children start school at a designated chronological age, but differ greatly in their individual development and experience base. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is one of Georgia’s educational initiatives to improve student’s learning. The primary goal of this program is to offer immediate and direct assistance to help students achieve academic success at their grade level. This is accomplished by reducing the teacher pupil ratio in the classroom. This provides more individualized instruction for all students. Students are in either a Reduced Size Class or are in a regular education classroom setting where the classroom teacher and an additional certified teacher will teach your child (reading and/or math) in small groups or on an individual basis.

It is exciting for students to be learning about many things that happen in Our World. Studying about animals was especially fun when Kindergarten classes went to Cagle Dairy.

We have been doing a lot of reading and writing. Sequencing events and writing about it has helped improve our writing skills. Please continue to practice the following new letters and sounds Nn,Ww,Xx,Yy,Zz. Also practice the following sight words not, then, down, will, went, with, where, what, funny, away, yes, was, please.

The students have been very busy learning about addition and subtraction in math. Please have them practice adding groups of items together or taking items away from a group.

It has helped students greatly when all these things are reinforced at home. Thank you for all your hard work.

March

We are finishing up our narrative writings this week and will be writing simple directions for our next marking period. Practice sequencing tasks. They should know what comes first, then, next, and finally. When you read a book from the library, ask your child what happened in the begining, middle and end of the book. Ask questions about various things that happened in the story. Have them read some of the sight words that come along in the book. Take turns reading.

Continue having your child read the reading group books to you while they point to each word. Discuss what the book was about.

Our new letters and sounds to practice so far this month are Uu and Rr.

Our new sight words are jump, they, up, here, all, ran.

Thank you to everyone that came to our Reading Road Trip evening on March 6th. Many books were read and the Book Fair had many great books for sale.

In Math, please continue working on counting numbers 1-30 and writing and identifying numbers 1-20. Practice identifying and knowing the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Practice a fair trade of coins.

Report cards will be sent home on March 20th. Thank you for working so hard with your child during this marking period. The students have learned so many new things this year.

February 25, 2008

February is almost over. Kindergarten has been very busy reviewing and learning new things. They continue to  learn about My Community, Living and Nonliving, and Narrrative Writing.

They have been working hard in Math with numeration to 30, graphing, and money. Please have your child identify the penny, nickle, dime, and quarter. Students also need to know the value of each coin, and be able to make a fair trade for the coins.

The letters for February to practice are Ll, Vv, and Qq. Our sight words are  look, little, nine, do, have, ten, said, did.

Remember that on every Spirit Day, additional students will be recognized if they have met the requirements for the 100 and 100 Plus Club. Please continue to practice letters, sounds, sight words and numbers to 20.

Valentine's Day was wonderful and the Vegetable Visitors were all very cute.

Thank you for all the extra time you spend to help your child be a successful learner.

January has been a very busy month. Kindergarten students have been busy learning many new letters, sounds, and sight words. Please continue to practice the following letters and their sounds: Gg, Ii, Kk, Jj It is also very important to write all letters correctly. Also practice the following new sight words: get, good, six, you, big, seven, play, make, find, are, eight.

Several students made it into the "100 Club" by recognizing all of their upper and lower case letters, color words, 20 numerals(in and out of order), and 20 sight words. They were very excited when they received their  silver medal dogtags. If your child still has a few more of these items to learn, please continue practicing. Students have the opportunity to receive their award on Spirit Days. Also practice for the "100 Plus Club". Students need to also be able to read 10 additional sight words, read number words one to ten, write first and last name correctly, and know all letter sounds.

In Math they have been practicing numeration to 20 and counting to 30. Please have the children write the numbers to 20 correctly. Use any manipulatives around your house for them to count.(crayons, buttons, paper clips, blocks, toys, books, etc.) They could count steps when walking. Enjoy finding things to count at home and when traveling or shopping.

Thank you for all you do to help your child learn.

December 20, 2007

December has been an exciting month in Kindergarten. We have learned a lot about the history and customs of holidays and "Celebrations Around the World". Students have been busy with informational writing, using great ideas and word choice. We learned about the letter Ff and sight words for, in and run.

Please continue to practice all letters, their sounds , and sight words that have been introduced this year. Students should also be able to recognize all numbers to 20. Hopefully, with practice, all students will be rewarded on the 100th day of school and join the 100 CLub.

Have a safe and happy holiday and winter break.

Thanksgiving

We have learned a lot about the Pilgrims, Indians, and Thanksgiving. The Kindergarten Thanksgiving Program was wonderful. The students worked hard at learning the songs and practicing their parts. Please continue practicing all letters, their sounds, and sight words. We did a lot of reviewing during November. We added Cc, and Ee. New sight words introduced were come, yellow, like, five, my, on, we, help, and zero.

It has been fun learning about measuring length, height and capacity in math. Please review this at home also.

October 30, 2007

Fall has arrived and students have been very busy learning. They continue adding more letters, sounds and sight words to their language arts knowledge. We are using these skills in our writing and reading.

Please continue to work on all these skills at home as we work on them in the classroom. The new letters focused on for October are Tt, Pp, Hh, Oo. New sight words to practice are it, to, white, purple, pink, is, three, he, she, green, go, orange, four. Please practice daily with flash cards.

Have children tell you the sound that goes with each letter and tell you a word that starts with that letter. A fun computer sight to practice letters, sounds and sight words is www.starfall.com (It also has stories to read). We have been reading more books and writing about many things.

Students have been doing a great job learning to use the numbers 0-10. In November we will be learning how to measure length, height and capacity. Help your child measure things at home.

Thank you for all you do! The students are a joy to teach.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students have been busy learning about many letters and their sounds. They are also using their new sight words in both reading and writing. I am enjoying getting to know your children and working with them in class.

Parents, please continue practicing both the uppercase and lowercase letters and their sounds with your child. It is important to review these at home also. Help your child choose the pictures for each letter for Monday. They need to be involved in choosing the pictures so that they learn the sound that these letters make. Have them tell you what the letter is, what sound it makes, and why "they" chose that picture. Make sure your child has found an object for Thursday each week. Please  direct them, but do not do it for them. They need to know why "they "chose the object. Help them understand the sound each letter makes. It is a great idea to make flash cards (index cards work well) for all the new sight words. Take a few minutes each night to practice these sight words.

August and September letters are: Ss,Mm,Dd,Bb,Aa

Sight words are: I, see, a, me, am, red, can, the, blue, black, one, at, and, two

For math please review patterning, positional words, and numbers 1-5.

Thank you for all you do to practice at home.
