Our Program

Early Intervention Program (EIP)

Children start school at a designated chronological age, but differ greatly in their individual development and experience base. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is one of Georgia’s educational initiatives to improve student’s learning. The primary goal of this program is to offer immediate and direct assistance to help students achieve academic success at their grade level. This is accomplished by reducing the teacher pupil ratio in the classroom. This provides more individualized instruction for all students. Students are in either a Reduced Size Class or are in a regular education classroom setting where the classroom teacher and an additional certified teacher will teach your child (reading and/or math) in small groups or on an individual basis.

It is hard to believe that this school year is almost over. The children have grown so much in size and in their learning at school. May has been filled with the excitement of learning about the ocean and in improving  addition and subtraction skills.

We added the sight words want, ride, that, there, came, saw and learned about the sounds made by ch, th ,sh ,wh.

Please continue to practice all sight words during the summer, and read books with your children to strengthen their skills.

April 24, 2009

The school year is flying by. We have been learning about animals and will continue learning about plants.

The new letters and sounds that have been introduced are Jj, Uu, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz, Qq. New sight words are have, are, help, like, went, was, he, she, they, yes, with, get, did, do, all, am. Please continue working with your child on practicing these letters, sounds, and sight words.

Math has been fun as we have learned about addition of objects and numbers. Continue having your child work with various manipulatives at home to join sets of things together. They can work with any objects in the house like blocks, crayons, legos, spoons, or goldfish crackers to show how different numbers of things can be added together to come up with sums to 10 or up to 20. Problem solving is always challenging as the students think of different ways to solve word problems.

It is wonderful to see how much the students have learned.

February 26, 2009

Kindergarten students have been enjoying learning about Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, President's Day, national symbols, and dental health. The Boosterthon Fun Run has brought a lot of excitement to the school.

Please review the letters and sounds introduced this month: Ff, Vv, Ll, Kk. The sight words introduced were: funny, where, orange, jump, away, down, this, come, said. Practice all sight words with your child as many nights as possible. I have made flash cards for your child to add to the baggie of sight words previously sent home.

Math has involved learning number words, graphing, and identifying coins and their value. Please have your child identify your coins and practice fair trades at home to reinforce their knowledge of money.

Thank you for all you do to help build a strong academic foundation for your child.

December is definitely a busy month. The Kindergarten students are busy learning about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. They are beginning to understand the difference between Needs and Wants. Working on the Economic unit is fun for all. The boys and girls have been busy working at a Bake Shop, Home Goods, or the Stationary Store. After 3 days of working in the store to earn money, they can purchase the items made by their classmates and themselves.

Our new sight words to study have been play, one, two, three, four, and five. The new letter has been Bb. Please continue to practice all sight words and letters with their sounds.

In Math we have been learning our number words to ten. We are recognizing and counting numerals to 20 and showing a model for these numbers.

November 20, 2008

November is busy with honoring our Veterans and learning about the Pilgrims, Indians and the First Thanksgiving. The children are enjoying all the Thanksgiving activities and are looking forward to their Thanksgiving Play.

Please keep reviewing the sight word cards that your child brought home in their baggies. I have been adding new words and have sent these home with your child to add to their baggie. Try to practice these words every night so that your child recognizes them easily. New words are you, not, make, look. Also, please practice the letters and their sounds for Cc, Nn.

Your child will continue to bring home "Baggie books" to read to you that were read during reading group time. Please have your child point to the words while he is reading and discuss some things about the book when finished. The books need to be returned the next day. Please sign that he has read it to you.

Students have been learning about 2 dimentional shapes and sphere and cube in Math. They are using ordinal numbers 1 to 10 and have been busy problem solving.

Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving vacation with your family!

We have been doing a lot of Informational Writing and have been learning additional sight words and phonics rules. Please continue to practice all of the sight words that have been introduced. We have added the words we, go, can, and, big, run.  These words are on index cards that have been put in a ziploc bag  and have been sent home. Please practice the sight words as many nights as possible so that your child can easily recagnize them. We have also intoduced the letters and sounds of Mm, Ii, Dd, Ss. Have your child think of words that start with those letters and sounds.

In Math we are working on Number Sense to 10. Have your child count objects and write numbers to represent those sets. Ordinal numbers and positional words are important to practice at home and when you are doing things out of the house. Try to use these terms as often as possible. We are also starting to discuss 2 dimensional shapes and sphere and cube.

Thank you for all you do.
