Mathathon

The Mathathon for St. Jude's Hospital is now winding down, and your child should be finishing up his problems in his booklet/CD or online.  It's now time to start collecting the pledges from friends and family members which we will donate to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.  Did you know that the average 2-year treatment for cancer costs around $500,000?  Your donations help families cover the cost of this expensive treatment so that no one ever has to be turned away from getting the help that they desperately need.

Please turn in your collection envelope by February 29, and remember, those students turning in at least $35 will receive a free ticket to Six Flags and a Mathathon t-shirt.  And perhaps even more importantly, your child will be learning a valuable lesson by helping others in need.

Penny Wars

Today, not a long time ago…In a Nicholson Star Galaxy, not far away…

PENNY WARS

It is a new age for Nicholson Stars…

Nicholson Stars have joined forces with the RallyKids Foundation to raise money and awareness for CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH.

.

THE RULES

Your class wins a PENNY WARS battle scoring the most penny points in a day.

Each penny in your class jug counts as one point. Any other type of money – coin or bill counts subtracts points – by each value.

Examples – a nickel subtracts 5 points

                 a dime subtracts 10 points

                 a dollar subtracts 100 points

                a 50 dollar bill subtracts 5,000 points!

All class jugs will be in the cafeteria. You may drop your coins and bills before school.

.

Results will be announced the following day and the winning class will be rewarded.

.

PENNY WARS lasts 5 days –

February 25 – 29

Every student will receive an offical Penny Wars Bag with the rules and their first penny to play on Friday, Feb. 22nd. Look for it coming home.

Good luck,

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

First of all, I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break!  I know I did.   Mrs. DeCormier and I want to thank you for the adorable handprint bags and the cooler that you gave us for the holidays.  What wonderful gifts!  We hope you enjoyed your holiday gifts too.

Our holiday party was a huge success!  A special thanks to our fantastic room moms!  Also a special thanks to every parent for sending in goodies to decorate our gingerbread houses.  The children had a blast!

These next few weeks are going to be filled with lots of testing for the GKAP, 100’s club and report cards.  I am looking forward to meeting with all of you at conferences to discuss the progress of your child.

If you haven’t heard yet, my husband and I are expecting our second child in June!  Our class made predictions about whether or not the baby would be a boy or a girl.  Then we graphed the results.  12 students predicted I would have a boy and 8 predicted a girl.  We will find out February 4th.

Upcoming dates to remember:

January 21- Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday-No School

January 22- 100th day of school

January 25- Spirit Day- Chick-fil-A biscuits will be sold

January 22-28 conference week- early dismissal

Winter is here!

Around the world

We have loved traveling “around the world.”  We went to Israel where we learned about Hanukkah.  From there, we went to Mexico where we learned about Los Pasados.  After leaving Mexico, we went to China where we learned about the Chinese New Year. Next, we went to England where we learned about Christmas.  Our last stop will be Sweden where we will learn about St. Lucia’s Day.  Look through your child’s “suitcase” and passport with them so they can tell you about their trip and what they learned.

Winter party

Our winter party will be on Friday morning, December 21st from 8:30-9:30 a.m.  We will be making gingerbread houses.  Parents are invited to come and help your child make a masterpiece!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the class gift-the cooler on wheels!  It came in very handy at our field trip to the Governor’s Mansion.

I hope that everyone has a very happy and healthy holiday break!  I’ll see you next year!

Students return to school on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
