The CRCT is here and since this is the first time many of you have a child taking it, I thought I would try to answer many of your questions and concerns. If I did not asnwer anything for you please email me or jot me a note, I am happy to help!
The CRCT measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined by the state curriculum for their grade.
CRCT test is April 23rd-30th. First Grade takes their part on the first 3 days which would be April 23rd, 24th, and 25th. We will take Reading on the 1st day, Language Arts the 2nd day, and Math on the 3rd day.
We start in the morning by 8:00am. That is why it is so important to have them here on time. They will not be allowed in the room once I start the test. If for some reason they are sick that day, there will be retakes but I will not be the one administering the test. Children are much more successful on tests when they take it in a familiar setting (where they have done the learning) and with a familiar adult (the one teaching). So please try to be here. Thanks!
The test is usually about 2 hours each day. There is a 15 minute break between the two sections of the test each day. The children will take a bathroom break before they start the test. If a child has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the test, we have to stop the whole test for that child and wait for them to come back.
The test is multiple choice questions, with three choices for each question labeled A, B, C. I do read the test and all the answers two times. I'm not able to read them a third time or rephrase questions. It is not timed by a clock but by my pacing. The students are directed to look at me when they are done answering a question, I will not move on until I'm sure everyone has answered. There will be another adult in the room while I'm giving the test to help assist me and the students. I will strategically place them so they will not feel pressured if they are the only one not done. Sometimes they can go back to a question at the end of the section. It is very important that they listen since some parts of a question may not be in their test but just part of what I say. If they are not listening they could miss an integral part of the question.
On the math section there will be scratch paper for them to work out problems or make drawings. The students are not to write in their books except for bubbling in the answer.
Again, please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you to all the parents who sent in eggs and helped us get ready for our "Thinking Thursday" Egg Hunt. We had a blast solving math problems and trading correct answers for candy! We appreciate all your help and support!
