We are so excited about all of the exciting things we are going to learn during the second half of the year! Here are some of the things we will be learning during this third nine weeks:
Math – we will be learning about fractions, decimals, measurement, area, and perimeter. We will continue to work on counting back change using the fewest amount of coins, and telling time to the half and quarter hour.
Reading – we will be focusing on reading to find information (non-fiction). We practice this skill every week when we read our Scholastic News during center time…look carefully at your child's grade on this each week in your student's Thursday Mail folder. Some children are not meeting standards because they are not looking back at the articles to find proof of an answer…this is a strategy that I have asked them to use.
Writing - we will be researching different animals that live in various habitats in Georgia, then writing reports about them. The students will love this activity, and they will learn about characteristics that certain animals have that make Georgia the perfect place to live!
Social Studies – Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt as well as Mary McLeod Bethune have helped to shape our country. Your child will learn how these important Americans helped make our nation and world a better place.
Science – your child will be learning about the different habitats within the state of Georgia, and about the animals and plants that live there. We will also be learning about the different characteristics that these plants and animals have that make certain habitats better than others for them to live.
