In August of 2007, our class scored as follows:

Below Level Readers     5

On Level Readers        10

Above Level Readers     2

In January of 2008, our class scored as follows:

Below Level Readers     3

On Level Readers        10

Above Level Readers     4

In May of 2008, our class scored as follows:

Below Level Readers     0

On Level Readers         9

Regions of Georgia

J0189590We had so much fun making our Georgia Habitat booklets...learning about the mountain, piedmont, coastal plains, and ocean habitats of Georgia.  We also had a great time with Scientist X from High Touch High Tech on April 18!  We learned even more about the regions of Georgia and the animals that live in each area.  Each student was able to bring home one of our state fossils...a shark tooth!  I hope your child has been sharing the neat things that we have learned!

Famous American Heroes

J0400667We will be sharing our oral presentations soon on our important American heroes.  The students have been reading books and working on reports and portraits which they will share with the class.  We can't wait to hear all about Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Eleanor Roosevelt, Cesar Chavez, Mary Bethune, Lyndon Johnson, Thurgood Marshall, and Paul Revere!

CRCT Testing

J0402266CRCT Testing will take place during April 23-April 29.  Make-up testing will be done through May 2.  Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast each morning and gets a good night's sleep.  Testing begins each day promptly at 8:00 am, and will last approximately 2 hours.  Please make sure your child is on time and ready to go!  Thank you.

Where is our Mystery Class?

J0437185_2We have been learning to use our critical thinking skills through the Journey North project in the computer lab!  Mrs. Ashley-Serafine has been taking us through the steps to use clues given to us concerning sunset and sunrise times, longitude, latitude, and various facts about the location of our Mystery Classes for the last few weeks.  Students are keeping track of their information in their Journey North folder, and within the next few weeks, students should be able to make educated guesses about the location of their Mystery Classes.  Please visit www.journeynorth.org to see what we've been doing!

Iditarod Winners!

IditarodWe had so much fun competing in our "pretend" Iditarod.  We learned so much about the real race in Alaska while practicing our estimation and addition skills.  Plus, we really learned to work together cooperatively while planning a strategy to win the race!  I am proud to announce that we had three winners who all tied for FIRST PLACE...they were Shannon, Clayton, and Ashley, and all 3 were presented with a First Place Ribbon and a 1 pound Hershey candy bar!  Way to go, mushers!

"I Had the Time of My Life!"

WritingWe are currently working on creating personal narratives, and your child has chosen one of three topics to write about...ask your child what he/she decided upon.  Students have learned how to start their narrative off with a "grabber" and use a "take away ending" to make their writing even better.  We've also been learning about verbs, and how STRONG verbs are much better to use than weak verbs.  Ask your child to give you an example of each!

New Club Members!

MathCongratulations to our newest members of the Hundred Club and Hundred Plus Club!  Shannon and Bradley will be inducted into the Hundred Club, and Gerardo will be inducted into the Hundred Plus Club at the end of the month!  Josh was inducted into the Hundred Plus club last month too!

If your student is not in either club yet, please encourage your child to study his/her multiplication facts, and we will have an opportunity at the end of April for your child to be tested again!
