We have the Social Studies section to do on Monday, and then we are DONE!. Testing has gone very well thus far. The children have worked hard, and I am very proud of them. The rest of the week will return to normal!

Look for an order form to come home on Monday for the Summer Bridge Workbook. It is an excellent way to do a little academic work over the summer. The workbooks are $12, and all orders need to be in by May 5.

MATH- We will be working constructing, comparing, and contrasting solid geometric figures,as well as, investigating graphs.

SOCIAL STUDIES-The Triangles of Trade and the Revolutionary War are on the agenda for the next two weeks.

Time is passing very quickly until the state CRCT starts on April 20th. It is very important that students be at school April 20-24. Please be sure to not schedule appointments for your child during this week. Also, here is a link that will take you directly to the CRCT on line practice pages. MATH-This week we will be multiplying and dividing decimals with whole numbers. We will also be using grids to make visual representations of these math operations. Then the students will compute using the order of operations, including parentheses.
READING/WRITING-Everyone is writing their Colonial Times Report and then editing the rough draft. We should ALL be finished on Thursday or Friday. We will have a Beyond Question Power Point on fact/opinion on Friday. Next week will start an author study about Gail Gibbons.
GRAMMAR- We will start to study adverbs.
SOCIAL STUDIES-We continue to study the 13 Colonies. Students are comparing and contrasting life in the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.

This week all fourth grade students will have a science lesson in the Star Lab. It is a portable planetarium in which students can observe all the stars and constellations in the night sky. My thanks to Mrs. Jackson for arranging this science experience and attending special training classes.

MATH-We are completing the fourth unit and will be reviewing on Thursday and Friday for the unit test next Monday. This week we will be learning about customary and metric weight, line graphs, and balanced equations. Here are a few links for practice: Mathwire , MathPlayground
READING/WRITING-Our work on main ideas and supporting details continues as the class takes notes from the book, If You Lived In Colonial Times. The notes will be used to write their research papers. The students are also reading A Lion To Guard Us, a fictional text about Colonial Days.Cause/effect and fact/opinion are other reading skills that we will be working on.

HEALTH- The class is discussing types of illnesses and illness prevention. We will also be studying the digestive system.
The Boosterthon Fun Run was a big success! Thanks to all parents and students for their wonderful support. Working together will mean more technology for our classrooms. Yeah! Don't forget that the Fun Run money is due by Thursday 2-26.
Teacher Appreciation Day- Thanks also to Mrs. Carlino and everyone else who made it possible for me to enjoy a fabulous lunch last Wednesday. I also appreciate the Kohl's gift card.

MATH - We are continuing our work with decimals. We will be rounding, ordering, and adding decimals.
READING - In conjunction with informational text we will work on main idea and supporting details.
ENGLISH - Pronouns continue to be our focus.
SCIENCE- We finish light and sound this week and have a test next Wednesday.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Our study of the 13 Colonies will begin next week with an emphasis on early colonial settlements by regions. We will also be reinforcing our map skills during this unit.

MATH - We are finishing fractions this week with mixed numbers, improper fractions, and adding/subtracting mixed numbers. Next week, we will be working on decimals.
LANGUAGE ARTS- We continue to look at informational text and graphic features. Everyone has a list of PRONOUNS and should memorize that list by the end of the week. Our Sitton Spelling Unit concentrates on irregular verb forms.
SOCIAL STUDIES - The explorer reports will be finished by Wednesday, and students will be sharing the reports with the rest of the class.
SCIENCE - We continue to look at simple machines and will be making booklets to demonstrate what we have learned. Light will be our next topic.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Holiday and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. This week, we begin the second half of the school year. We still have a lot of work to do! Please continue to read daily to improve comprehension.

MATH- This week our math classes will be regrouping again based on each student's score on the pretest. The focus this nine weeks will be fractions, decimals, and weight.
READING - How do I read to get information? We will "dissect" informational books and talk about using the graphic and textual features for maximum understanding of a topic.
WRITING- Finally, this week our class is finishing writing their response to literature which will be a significant portion of their writing grade.
SOCIAL STUDIES- How was the world changed by the explorations of European nations? We will find out as we research early explorers. On Wednesday, each student will receive an explorer to research and write a report. Most of the report will be completed at school, but students may want to do some extra fact searching on their home computer.
SCIENCE- Most of the explorer report will be independent work. So, we will also be discussing simple machines, and their uses in our daily life.
With all the allergies and colds, we are in need of more boxes of tissues. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated!

Math-My math class continues to practice long division, three digit dividends with two digit divisors. We will need quite a bit of practice to become proficient in this process. Please practice long division at home. It involves so many steps, and one small mistake will cause an incorrect answer. To prevent confusion be sure your child is "lining up" the numbers. There will be be a brief quiz on Wednesday and a more difficult test on Friday. Check homework to see what we are working on. Next week, we will begin geometry. Lines, points, and angles will be our starting focus.
Reading-The study of Traditional Literature continues.We are currently discussing the elements in fables and will also discuss folktales. The class will read and analyze a Native American folktale, The Rough Face Girl. We will read numerous folktales and even compose our own versions of some well known fairytales.
Writing- Using shared pen the class will write a response to literature , a summary of The Rough Face Girl. We continue to look at the components of a personal narrative and practice writing narratives in our writing journals.
The focus in English continues to be on adjectives. We will still work on recognizing adjectives ,as well as,using the comparative and superlative degrees.
Social Studies- Native Americans are the topic for the next two weeks. The class has been discussing how the first Native Americans arrived in North America. We will divide into groups to research and report on six different Native American tribes.
Report Cards went home on Friday. Please sign the signature card and return it in the envelope. Thanks

MATH-This Monday, we are changing math classes. Most of the students will remain with the same teacher, but there will be some changes. My math class will start with basic division and then move to two digit divisors. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication and division facts. If the children are not "fast" with the facts, they will struggle with long division.
READING-We are beginning a new unit, Traditional Literature. This will include fables, tall tales, and fairy tales. First, we are completing a response to literature for the book of the month, Black Cat.
ENGLISH- A quick review of plural nouns will be our focus, and then we are on to adjectives.
SCIENCE- Our weather unit continues to be our topic of study. We will be providing the weather forecast for the Nicholson News in the morning.
